We are honored to announce this year's recipient of all proceeds raised from our Annual Ball to be awarded to The Coffee Bunker.
The Coffee Bunker is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Tulsa, OK. Founded by Mary Ligon after she experienced a life altering, devastating event. Mary's heart and mind took a stark change of direction concerning our military and their families after her own 24-year-old son, Cpl. Daniel Y. Ligon, USMC, returned from his second deployment in Fallujah, Iraq. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Tulsa, clearly disturbed. Struggles with PTSD, depression, sheer exhaustion, and a crumbled marriage all culminated in his death by suicide on June 10, 2007. Mary’s passion is to redeem the tragedy of Daniel’s devastating death by reaching out to others facing the same silent wounds of war. Read more about Mary and how she fights for our troops >>>HERE<<<.
The Coffee Bunker's mission is “To offer opportunities that support our service members and veterans toward successful reintegration with their families and communities.” The Coffee Bunker is a passionate response not only to the death of one Marine, but to the heart-breaking, unprecedented numbers of our service members who are literally dying faster by suicide than they are in combat operations. The Coffee Bunker is a place where they can connect with each other, where the community can thank, honor, and serve them in a REAL way, where they can find the support and the resources they need, and through which renewal of body, soul, and spirit can occur through the friendship, support, opportunities, and activities offered to our troops and their families. Each day up to 90 veterans and service members drop by Coffee Bunker to get together, use computers, access Wi-Fi, enjoy games and group activities, watch TV or just hang out. They provide a safe and relaxing atmosphere that welcomes all current and former military servicemen and women, as well as their family members and children. All of their services are provided FREE OF CHARGE.
OK CHIVE has placed a special emphasis on Veterans this year. After Charley, one of our own Chive Charities Recipient, passed away earlier this year, it only seemed fitting to theme our Annual Ball after our greatest heroes and heroines. Please join us on September 10, 2016 at the Tulsa Air and Space Museum around 7:30pm to celebrate those who live their lives in service to our country and honor the many who gave their all. Additional information and ticket sales coming very soon!
