OK Chive was officially founded on July 3rd, 2014 - the day before 'Merica's birthday. Prior to that, we were several chapters operating independently; however, having a silent agreement not to plan events on top of the other. What started out over a year and a half ago as Chivers and Chivettes just randomly congregating has turned into something simply amazing. Here's a very brief history lesson.
In 2013, Tulsa saw its first Chive chapters crop up - Chive On-Tulsa, Tulsa Chive, BA Chivers, and Broken Arrow Chive. In the later part of the year, the four cooperated and cross promoted their first event via a Toy Drive at a local bar in Broken Arrow, OK. As they cooperated and cross promoted other events such as A Very Chivers' Eve and even a Chivette calendar, two more local chapters cropped up in the Tulsa, OK area - Chive On-Owasso and Chive On-Jenks. With all of these chapters formed, the six local chapters united to throw a St. Patrick's Day bash - The Green Party. At this event, Chive On Tahlequah and the six other chapters partied the night away, and what a night to remember. After the dust settled from such a memorable night and the formation of theBERRYOK, the now seven chapters and theBERRY chapter decided it was time for a discussion to take place.
In May of 2014, all seven chapters congregated at a local restaurant as centralized to the eight chapters as could be found, and from this meeting - the concept of OK Chive was born. In a coordinated effort, local communities that had multiple chapters agreed to merge their social media channels to have a consolidated effort for that locale. BA Chivers and Broken Arrow Chive merged along with Chive On-Tulsa and Tulsa Chive - leaving only five chapters and one theBERRY chapter. The next step to take was to become official.
On July 3rd, 2014, OK Chive was officially founded as a non-profit organization with the state of Oklahoma. Since its inception, we have grown and started local chapters in Oklahoma City (OKC Chive) and the Southwest region of Oklahoma (Southwest OK Chive). In a consolidated effort, we have officially been able to rally Chivers and Chivettes across the state of OK to unite and raise an incredible amount of money in the process. Here are the events we've done to date:
Event -- Local Chapter Presenting the Event -- Event Date -- Event Totals
1) A Very Chivers' Eve -- BA Chivers -- 01/01/14 -- $1,009.00
2) The Green Party -- OK Chive -- 03/17/14 -- $2,584.25
3) Chive On for Trent -- Chive On-Owasso -- 06/18/14 -- $11,384.00
4) Masquerade Ball -- OK Chive -- 10/25/14 -- $20,377.08
5) Ft. Thunder Poker Run -- OKC Chive -- 11/09/14 -- $6,725.41
6) Keep Calm and Paws On -- OKC Chive -- 11/15/14 -- $4,125.42
That's over $40,000 in less than six months, and we don't plan on stopping this year until we've hit that $50,000 mark.
If you want to be involved in this amazing movement, watch our Events page. Currently, we have a Toy Drive in Tulsa, OK scheduled as a social hour, but we've got several opportunities that we're working on finalizing so that you can get involved as you're able to do so. Find our more about our Toy Drive here.
